DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - A Bristol Township councilwoman will go to trial on charges relating to a bizarre string of e-mails she is accused of sending to a fellow councilwoman.
Karen Lynn Lipsack, 53, is charged with threatening to harm or influence another council member and threatening harm to influence the administrative process in connection with alleged e-mails to Councilwoman Tina Davis.
Davis told a judge Monday that she was scared for the safety of her family.
Lipsack's attorneys said the whole thing was meant to be a joke.
Lipsack was arrested April 3 over e-mails that were sent to Davis written by a person identified as "Eye in the Sky" from the e-mail address "doodlebug1950," according to court documents.
One e-mail said that its sender had taken photographs of Davis while she was at the Philadelphia Race Track Casino in Bensalem, Pa., with another man.
Another asked who was watching her children at the time she was at the track.
"I was actually fearful and felt threatened. My children were being watched. I was scared," Davis said yesterday. "I have three young children. I thought I was being followed. It was an ugly e-mail and I was concerned for my family."
The sender threatened to bring the photos to a council meeting if Davis didn't stop voting with Council President Anna Rogers.
Lipsack's attorney argued that the e-mails were harmless, that it was just "politics as usual" in Bristol Township, and that if everything in them is true, there should be no issue.
Lipsack was ordered yesterday not to attend council meetings and to have no contact with Davis.
If convicted, Lipsack faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in state prison.
